Average yet different:-) I'm a HOH-late deafened gal living on the thread of two worlds, the Deaf and Hearing. I have a hearing partner and 2 of my 3 kids are hearing, the other has a mild to moderate loss. Deafness runs in my family and is hereditary. I was raised in the hearing world and brought up orally. It was not until my late 20's when my hearing started to rapidly decline that I knew there was something more wrong. After a few years of dizziness and lots of doctors, I was diagnosed with bilateral Meniere's Disease. Communication really was becoming a problem for me. I went from one hearing aid to 2 and found little comfort in them. To me they just amplify noise and don't do much for speech or recruitment at all. My "hearing friends" got tired of often having to repeat themselves and although my family tries to communicate its often messy. Parents and sibs don't really understand. I hate missing out on anything, so I started to teach myself ASL (sign language)and I took a speech reading course learning to lipread somewhat. I met a few very nice patient Deaf folks who have helped me and best of all met 2 really nice HOH gals here in my city who help keep me sane! Although I now have the ability to slip between the two worlds, I often find myself not knowing where I belong exactly. It's my hope to meet some new people here who can relate and to just chill out and write about my day whether its frustrating, boring or funny. Maybe I will do some Vlogs as well to improve my skills. I'm an easy going, out spoken, talented individual with a wide variety of interests. I LOVE the original Starsky and Hutch and I have one of the biggest fanfic lists on the net! I'm a mom, avid crocheter and technology enthusiast and will pretty much seek out any information if I want to learn how to do something (crafty or otherwise). Lets chat or sign, and see where we go. The world is full of possibilities, right?? Flashinghands across a clear blue sky......
